The year 2012 is on track to be a record breaking year for hotel room rentals in St. Joseph County. All the credit is being given to the success of the Notre Dame Football Team.
The county has a six percent tax on room rentals. This year, it’s projected to bring in more than $3.5 million. That compares to $2.9 million last year.
One percent of the six percent tax has typically covered marketing costs at the College Football Hall of Fame. But this year, the hall is closing. It has not yet been determined where that Hall's share of the hotel motel tax pie will be spent in the future.
