Holiday historic home tours start this weekend at the Kizer House

This weekend there's a chance to see a little bit of South Bend's history while getting into the holiday spirit.

Starting Friday night and ending Sunday evening Indiana Landmarks is sponsoring the Holiday Historic Home Tours.

All of the tours will start and include the Kizer house which has become locally known as the “castle.”

It sets the stage for all of the tours along the West Washington national landmark corridor.

Proceeds from the tickets will help pay to rehabilitate the Kizer home while Indiana Landmarks determines what they want to do with the building.

The Kizer was built in 1885 by a prominent family. It's across the street from the Copshalholm home and looks like a smaller version of it.

“What's unique about the Saturday tour is that most of those homes have never been on a tour,” explains Paul Hayden from Indiana Landmarks. “That is one of reason we picked those houses. We've had tours for probably five to eight years, most of them have not been on tour, as well as the Kizer house.”

This weekend the house will be decorated and full of items from local shops.

Friday night only the Kizer house will be showcased in a short tour.

While on Saturday there will be a tour of private homes and Sunday historical businesses will open their doors.
