High attendance means spotty Wi-Fi at fair

Searching for a signal at the Elkhart County 4-H fair can be problematic on days when attendance is high.

According to NewsCenter 16's reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the fair expands access points every year to cover most of the property, and all of the buildings have Wi-Fi inside.

Doug Mayberry, head of maintenance at the fair told the Elkhart Truth that the system can be overloaded on an average day, and especially on busy days when "3,000 people are trying to use Wi-Fi at once, no one gets much of anything."

Another issue for cell service is the metal rides which absorb radio frequencies and weaken the signal even further.

But Mayberry foresees progress next year thanks to planned equipment upgrades with high productivity capability, which would allow for greater range and fewer spotty areas.
