Help end sexual assault and "Take Back the Night"

More Video...

South Bend, Ind. One American is sexually assaulted every two minutes. Two-thirds of sexual assaults are committed by someone the victim knows and less than 30 percent of them are reported to police.

That’s why SOS of the Family Justice Center is hosting its 12th annual Take Back the Night March. The goal of this event is to promote awareness about sexual assault and rape.

The community is invited to help take a stand. The event starts at 7 p.m. on the steps of the St. Joseph County Courthouse on Main Street in South Bend. There will be several speakers, a march, a moment at the White Flag Project and a closing ceremony.

The White Flag Project can be seen just outside the Morris Theater on Michigan Street. This project is done every year and each flag represents 100 sexual assault victims in St. Joseph County.

SOS is the rape crisis center for St. Joseph County. It is dedicated to the elimination of sexual and relationship violence and abuse. They are always looking for volunteers to help with their mission. If you are interested you can call 574-234-6900.

As we mentioned, SOS is a rape crisis center so if you have been a victim of sexual assault and rape or know someone who has call them at 574-289-HELP (4357).
