Heating costs high with record usage

Heating costs are expected to be sky high with the record low temperatures this winter this includes everything from propane, electric and natural gas.

At United Way of St. Joseph County the 211 call center is always open. Leaders encourage people to take advantage of the hotline if they need help paying their heating bills.

It's the same message from Nipsco, which is seeing high demand this season.

Real Services says there are still federal funds available for those that qualify.

“If you've gotten behind then we are going to refer you to some social service agencies,” says Karen Sommers from United Way.

Nipsco says next week they plan to release results that specifically break down how this week has had an effect on customers this year compared to last year.
