The Mishawaka firefighter facing two felony charges made his first court appearance Monday morning.
Eric Hazen is charged with felony neglect of a dependent and intimidation. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest.
Court documents say that St. Joseph County police were called for a welfare check on Hazen’s six year-old son last month.
Hazen was arrested and charged with neglect because he put his son in a situation that endangered the boy’s health.
He was also charged with intimidation for threatening an officer. The resisting charge came after Hazen scuffled with two officers taking him into custody.
Hazen is scheduled back in court on Dec. 2, and his trial is set for January.
