South Bend Thursday marks the halfway point of South Bend's 1000 houses in 1000 days initiative.
So far, it appears the city is on track. To date, 126 homes have been repaired, 142 have been demolished, and 196 are under contract for demolition. The Hardest Hit Fund blight elimination program will subsidize the demolition of 62 more.
Two houses are being repaired by area non-profits, with help from the Community Development Block Fund.
That amounts to 528 homes that have been taken care of, or have a plan in place.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced the effort back in February 2013.
Thursday afternoon, Deputy Mayor Mark Neal will join other city leaders to mark the five hundredth day. The event will highlight all of the community partners that have made the progress so far possible.
