Half-way point for South Bend's 1,000 houses in 1,000 days program

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A half-way point has been reached since South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced plans to clean up 1,000 vacant or abandoned houses in 1,000 days.

Thursday marks day 500, and city leaders say they have fixed or demolished 300 houses so far and have plans to destroy another 200.

Overall, in the past 500 days, the city has taken action on 528 homes.
