A group working to curb violence in South Bend continues their efforts by setting up lemonade stands.
Friday night for the second time a small group set-up lemonade stand on the west side of South Bend.
The idea is to hand out a free drink and snack and not brochures or fliers. The group wants to set-up a positive presence where a serious crime has happened.
Friday night about a dozen people gathered at a gas station on Lincolnway and Adams Street where organizers say there are shootings and drug deals.
“It gives something positive for people to talk about,” says organizer Melissa Stokely. “Instead of seeing all of the negative in neighborhood. We want the neighborhood to talk about it, we want neighbors to feel comfortable coming out of their homes.”
The group plans to set-up a stand every two weeks.
