Green to sit out two games after on-court incident

South Bend Washington junior basketball player Breondra Green will sit out two games due to her involvement in a highly publicized on-court incident in a game against Oregon-Davis last week.

Green was suspended one game by the IHSAA for being ejected from the game after hitting Oregon-Davis player Lexi Minix to the ground. On top of that automatic suspension, South Bend Washington has suspended her for an additional game.

Green must also complete an online sportsmanship course.

Green began her suspension by sitting out Friday night's game versus LaPorte. She will also sit out next Thursday's game versus Clay.

Bobby Cox, Commissioner of the IHSAA, released this statement Friday night: "...The additional penalty was determined by me and the Principal of South Bend Washington. As I stated earlier, these incidents provide a teachable moment in the education based athletic setting. Subsequently, the requirement of completion of the NFHS sportsmanship course was added.

I commend Principal George McCullough and his staff for their presence at the contest, their swift actions immediately after the incident and their continued cooperation as we all strive to create positive experiences for our young people. "
