Goshen man in hospital after police chase

Goshen, Ind. A Goshen man was hospitalized last night after a routine traffic stopped turned into a police chase.

William Helms, 42, was riding his motorcycle along CR 6 just east of CR 9, near Elkhart Municipal Airport when officers tried to pull him over.

Helms sped off, leading police on a nearly seven-mile pursuit.

The chase ended when he went straight through the T-intersection of CRs 21 and 8 and crashed into a tree.

Helms was thrown from his Harley Davidson motorcycle and taken to the hospital with a dislocated leg, facial bleeding and chest pain.

Investigators say he may face charges for operating while intoxicated, and resisting police.
