Elkhart County man behind bars for hitting woman, strangling child

An Elkhart County man is behind bars after an alleged domestic violence incident.

Around 8:15 p.m. Saturday night, police were called to the 400 block of Westfield Avenue in Goshen after a woman reported she was hit in the mouth, and an 11-year-old boy, battered and strangled.

The victims told police they were battered by Angel Maldonado, who had left the scene before police arrived.

Police found Maldonado a few blocks away at Lincoln and Huron. He was taken into custody for domestic battery in front of a child, strangulation and battery on a child, which is a felony.

He is in the Elkhart County Jail.

Paramedics were called to the scene, but the woman and child refused medical attention.
