Gobles man arrested after crashing car into a church

A Gobles man is accused of crashing his pick-up into a Van Buren County church while drunk.

Jason Ketchum, 35, was arraigned in court Friday on charges of operating while intoxicated and failure to report.

It happened around five o'clock Friday morning at the Journey Family Church, at the intersection of Depot and Cottage Streets.

Police say Ketchum drove his pick-up straight into the building, causing significant damage, and then fled the scene.

Police used the vehicle's registration to track him to a home on the south side of Gobles. Ketchum denied everything and, according to investigators, was clearly intoxicated and uncooperative.

His next court appearance is scheduled for June 25.
