Mishawaka, Ind. These days, more and more people are riding bikes. Not only does it help save the planet, but it is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the weather at the same time. This week may be filled with rain but it’s a great time to either shop for a bike or get the one you have back in shape.
Monday morning, WNDU stopped by Albrights Cycling and Fitness to see what bikes are out there. The manager, Drew Albright showed off three different types of road bikes. The first one was a comfort bike. He says it’s a great bike if you want to roam around your neighborhood.
The back is totally upright and the hands are a little higher providing more comfort.
The second bike was a long distance comfort bike. It too is more upright and more comfortable to ride, but you can ride 20 to 30 miles on this one.
The third one does it all. It is the dual sport bike. With this bike you can ride on the road, off road, on a trail, whatever you want.
The best part is, with technology constantly changing, bikes are more comfortable than ever before.
“The older bikes from 20, 30, 40 year ago, they used to be dead flat. So, with the newer geometry there is more of an uplift with the frame and the frame is pretty much what puts you in that upright position versus being more bent over, hunched over,” explains Albright.
If you are planning on getting on your bike anytime soon, Albright says there are a few safety tips you should follow. He says to always wear a helmet, ride with the traffic, always be aware, obey the rules of the road and always be visible.
If you are in your car you still have to follow some tips as well. The biggest one is to be at least three feet away from a cyclist at all times.
