SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A reading initiative that started on the streets of South Bend continued on Monday in the classroom.

Monday, students at three South Bend schools got lots of new books as part of the "get booked" program.

It is a partnership between city council vice-president Derek Dieter and Better World Books.

Dieter started the program by passing out free books from the trunk of his squad car while still a police officer.

The Kroc Center and South Bend Silver Hawks will also be giving out free passes or tickets for children's book reports.
