2012 has broken the record for highest gas prices on Christmas Day, and it looks like they may keep going up before the New Year.
The average price in South Bend was sitting at $3.22 per gallon on Christmas, compared to the national average of $3.24. That's 21 cents higher than the previous Christmas Day record of $3.03 per gallon.
GasBuddy.com says historically, gas prices always go up between Christmas and New Year.
If prices hit $3.26 before New Year's Day, it will set a new record for highest gas prices ever seen on January 1.
