ELKHART, Ind. -- A bomb scare Tuesday morning had the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department call an immediate area evacuation.

A suspicious package was spotted at the Elkhart business MSC Industrial Direct Inc. in the 28000 block of Laura Court.

Once the investigation began, it was learned that early in the day an employee had the item lying on their desk, and described it as a having a battery pack and a blinking red light.

They were concerned, so the employee took it outside and left it in a ditch.

But after officers spoke with management, they learned that MSC has GPS trackers that fit the description of the item in the package.

An employee familiar with the product was able to identify that the battery pack with the blinking red light was in fact a GPS tracker and not an explosive.

Officials were able to give the all-clear.
