Funeral services this week for woman killed in fire

SOUTH BEND Funeral services will be held this week for an elderly woman who died after being injured in a house fire last week.

It happened Thursday night around 11 at the intersection of Falcon and Ford on South Bend's west side. Police rescued a woman trapped inside - Esther Borowski, 90. She passed away Friday evening at a hospital in Fort Wayne.

Her visitation is Monday from 4 to 8p.m. at St. Joseph Funeral Home in South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St Joseph Cemetery.

Borowski’s family is thanking emergency crews for their swift action. A cause for the blaze hasn't been released.

Borowski’s passing marks the eighth fire death in the Michiana area in just three weeks. Four people died in a house fire February 6th in Three Oaks, Michigan. A 73-year-old man died in a mobile home fire February 12 in Benton Township. Two others died February 13 in Milford, Indiana.
