For the second year in a row, parents have the opportunity to get kids away from TV and video games, to instead particpate in a free, outdoor event in South Bend. Organizers say it's a way to gain an appreciation for the natural, aquatic resources that are so plentiful in the area.
At Pinhook Park on Saturday, kids can partake in a free, youth, fishing day hosted by South Bend Parks and the DNR.
Pre-registration is required, contact South Bend parks at (574) 299-4765, or online at the South Bend Parks website.
Before the event, the DNR will stock 400 keeper-size rainbow trout in Pinhook Lagoon.
Participants will receive basic instruction on casting and fishing, fish cleaning, water safety and fish identification. After the instruction, kids are able to go fishing with coaches. Fishing poles, bait and tackle will be provided.
