Free flu vaccine for kids

It's a push to use up a couple hundred Flu-Mist (nasal spray) vaccines before they expire.

In order to achieve this goal, the St. Joseph County Health Department is offering free Flu-Mist vaccines to school-aged kids who are uninsured or under-insured.

The clinic is also offering vaccines to kids and adults who do not qualify for the free vaccines for $25 each.

“Unfortunately, we just don't have the budget to do a free clinic for everybody. We do some drive thru clinics earlier in the year, we had three this year, we had one in South Bend fire, one at Clay fire one at Mishawaka Fire Department. So people don't have to get out of the car, they fill out all of their paper work and go on through. On those too they are the normal $25 rate on it” says Nick Molchan.

One of the nurses told us they saw about 18 kids Monday morning. The free vaccines will continue all this week, because the vaccines expire next week.

The hours are 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1p.m. to 3:30p.m.
