Former teacher pleads guilty to inappropriate communication with student

A 30-year-old former teacher has pleaded guilty to sending inappropriate text messages to a 12-year-old.

Eric West of Osceola was the child's 5th grade teacher at Walt Disney Elementary School in Mishawaka.

West was arrested in October 2012 after the former student's mother found the text messages and alerted police.

West is charged with Inappropriate Communication With a Child, a class A misdemeanor.

West is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on August 20 at 8 a.m.
