A former St. Joseph County Jail guard has learned his punishment for stealing from an inmate.
28-year-old Trevor Reynolds was sentenced to one year behind bars, after he admitted to trafficking with an inmate, and official misconduct.
As part of a plea agreement, two counts of theft and another count of official misconduct were dismissed. Reynolds was also ordered to pay more than $550 in restitution.
The investigation began after a former inmate reported his debit card had not been returned. Officials traced transactions made on the card to a grocery store ATM. Still photos ultimately led police to Reynolds, who was arrested in late March.
