Former LaVille teacher found not guilty

St. Joseph County, Ind. A former LaVille Junior-High School teacher, accused of slapping a special needs student, has been found not guilty.

45-year-old Saundra Yute was charged with battery to a child, a Class D Felony. Her trial got underway Tuesday morning, and the case went to the jury Wednesday afternoon. Yute resigned her teaching position last November, the same day the alleged incident took place.

A teacher's aide reported seeing her hit a 12-year-old on the face and behind after the child, who suffers from Sturge-Weber Syndrome, had a bathroom accident.

According to court documents, Yute told the aide she had "just lost it" for a minute. And said the job, quote, "just was not for her."
