SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Several dozen people brought out the formal ware for a spontaneous fundraising event in South Bend Friday evening.
Proceeds from the Soiree en Blanc South Bend benefit River Bend Cancer Services.
Participants are unaware where the soiree will be held until they get a text alerting them to the location.
Then they rush to enjoy the party.
This year's event was held in the Jon R. Hunt plaza in front of the Morris Performing Arts Center.
“They come with their tables, chairs, gourmet basket and wine, and we have an elegant dinner party in a place that's not designed to have a dinner party,” event organizer Monica Hoban said.
“For Riverbend, it's a wonderful friendraiser,” explained Kate Voelker. “It gives us the opportunity to meet people we didn't know before and raise awareness about our organization.”
And extra incentive to dress up - there's a prize for whomever wears the best hat.
