Hospitals are restricting visitors as flu season reaches its peak.

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, Starke and IU Health LaPorte are all turning away visitors who are under age 18. Many areas are limiting visitors to immediate family members of the patient.

There are two flu shot clinics Thursday to reduce the risk of getting the flu. SJRMC is offering free vaccines at their Mishawaka campus. They’ll give vaccines to the first 200 people, beginning at 2p.m.

The elkhart county health department is operating a flu shot clinic from 8:30 to 11:30, and 1 to 3:30 at the Lincoln Center, located at 608 Oakland Avenue. Shots there are $25 for anyone over age 3 and $29 for small children. They are hosting several more throughout the month. See a schedule on The Elkhart Truth website.
