A Medflight helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing while airlifting a five year-old girl to a Fort Wayne hospital Friday morning.
That is according to this article from our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.
Janell Yoder, 5, was riding with Linda Yoder, 29, on County Road 22 near Middlebury when an SUV crashed into their horse-drawn buggy.
The child was being flown to Fort Wayne with possibly life-threatening injuries when the pilot smelled something burning in the cockpit. This forced him to make an emergency landing in a bean field near Churubusco.
An ambulance arrived on the scene and took the girl to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Linda Yoder was taken to the hospital with head and lower back pain, while the driver of the SUV, Janet Dabney, 70, reported no injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
