Employees of an Elkhart County First Source Bank will now be able to spring into action with the help of Elkhart General.

The hospital, along with the Elkhart General Foundation and "Cardiac Science" donated a defibrillator to the branch on Franklin St.

It was all because of the bank's help with a fundraiser at Elkhart General earlier this year.

The device helps provide life-saving intervention in the event of a customer collapsing during a cardiac event.

“There was at least one instance where a police officer was saved through the device at the station,” said Greg Lobasso, President of Elkhart General Hospital. “You'd like to think emergency crews could respond and a life might be saved but in those instance’s seconds and minutes count. There's a strong belief it saved his life.”

Elkhart General is also working on installing 15 other defibrillators throughout Elkhart County.
