A South Bend man was sentenced on Thursday for his involvement in the carjacking and robbery of two students of Holy Cross College on Notre Dame Ave. back in the fall of 2009.

Michael Burnett, 20, plead guilty to four charges on March 12, 2012, but the state has agreed to dismiss a fifth count of carjacking.

Back in September of 2009, Burnett and several other men assaulted and robbed two students from Holy Cross College as they were walking to their car. They threw those students into the trunk and drove them to ATM’s in the area, taking cash out of their accounts.

Police found the two students in the trunk of the car the next morning.

Burnett was sentenced in court on March 7, 2013 to two counts of robbery, both class B felonies, and two counts of confinement, also class B felonies. Burnett’s sentence totals 48 years, with 28 spent in the Dept. of Corrections.

Burnett is the last defendant to be sentenced in this case, the four men also involved in the Sept. 24, 2009 incident, Brion Smith, Donte Jones, Hakeen Hogan and Rashaad Hogan have been sentenced to serve terms in the Dept. of Corrections.
