At around 3 a.m. on Sunday fire crews were called to a house in the 56700 block of Boss Blvd., just off of C.R. 16 in Elkhart.
A fire had engulfed the back of the house and much of the attic.
Three generations live in the home, and they fought with garden hoses to put out the flames before crews arrived. Neighbors also used garden hoses to try and contain the fire.
Family members say a crew from Baugo Township arrived on the scene about 15 to 30 minutes after they were called.
Crews aren't sure what caused the fire but say most of the damage is in the kitchen, attic, and back of the house.
