The family of the man that police say fatally shot an Indianapolis police officer has released a statement expressing their sympathy for his family.
The family of Steven Byrdo, 24, say they feel “great sadness” for Officer Rod Bradway’s family.
The Nappanee native was killed early Friday after he kicked in an apartment door in response to screams by Byrdo’s ex-girlfriend who he was holding at gunpoint inside.
Byrdo was hiding behind the door and allegedly fatally shot Bradway as the officer tried to help the woman.
Bradway leaves behind a wife and two children.
His funeral is set for this Thursday in Indianapolis.
