A South Bend family is campaigning to win a wheelchair accessible van through an online website contest.
It's part of National Mobility Awareness Month. Four years ago Desiree Kindig suffered from a severe asthma attack and went into cardiac arrest.
Since then she's has had limited use of her arms and legs.
Recently she entered a contest to win a van. The family with the most votes and meets the requirements will win the vehicle.
Right now if Desiree needs to leave the house her mother has to carry her to the car, making it difficult to get around.
“This would be a dream come true,” says Desiree’s mother, Kim Belmarez. “She could live her life outside the house, she could do things she used to do like go to the mall, go to the park, go visit her friends but we can't do that.”
National Mobility Awareness Month is in May but voting for the contest started Tuesday.
