Evergreens placed at city cemetery

South Bend, Ind. A historic cemetery in South Bend is getting a holiday make-over.

Earlier Monday volunteer participated in the Hanging of the Evergreens at City Cemetery. Folks were asked to hang wreaths and evergreen swags to commemorate and celebrate the rich past of South Bends diverse ancestors.

Daughters of the American Revolution say the evergreens are a symbol of renewal.

“We need to preserve their memory and by preserving these headstones and recognizing these people who donated this plot cemetery,” says Carol Nicols a DAR member.

The ceremony will continue onto Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m.
