E-Mail phishing scam targets people who make automatic payments

If you're like a lot of people, you may have your bills directly debited from your bank account. Many people do this to avoid late fees.

But there's an email scam in our area that could cost you time and hassles if you fall for it. Some residents in South Bend have received an email saying that an auto-deduct payment has been confirmed for their bank account.

It's basically a scare tactic that's trying to steal your personal information. The email comes from the email address scana@paymentbd.com.

It says "you sent an automatic payment of $50 to Toscana Corporation" and lists automatic payment details.

It says to change or cancel your agreement with the company, log in and confirm the payment in the "my pre-approved payments section."
It says if you do not confirm the payment, click a link below, provide information to confirm the account's yours and click the button to cancel.

The Better Business Bureau says you should not click the link, because it's a phishing scam. They're hoping to catch people at a busy time who might not be on their guard and will just go through the site and hit cancel without thinking about it.
