NewsCenter 16 has learned that Elkhart mayor Dick Moore has closed Grace Lawn Cemetery until further notice.
In a press release, the mayor said that weekend inspections showed that there has been considerable erosion where people walk, He is closing the cemetery to prevent anyone falling down the steep river bank
Anyone who would like to visit the grave site of a friend or family member you need to make arrangements with the cemetery department.
Construction to stabilize the river bank will begin soon.
