Elkhart It was standing room only at Elkhart's City Council meeting, as council members voted on controversial annexation plans for five areas.
Residents of one specific area, west of U.S. 20 and along Toledo Road, voiced their passionate concern for nearly an hour last night. In the end, the council voted against annexing what's known as area 10.
Last night, the council did approve annexing four other areas; 12, 14, 15 and 9. That brings the total this year to 12 approved areas.
According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth Online , the council is now finished with all phases of annexation for 2014.
Residents of some areas approved to be annexed can still file legal challenges. If they don't, the 12 new areas will become part of the city on the first day of 2015.
