An Elkhart teen, who was convicted of murder in 2009, has been denied post-conviction relief by the Indiana Court of Appeals.

Dentrell Brown, 18, and Joshua Love, 23, were arrested back in May of 2008 for the murder of Gerald Wenger during a drug deal gone bad.

Police say Wenger was trying to buy crack cocaine, but when he realized what they were selling him was fake a fight broke out and love shot him in the head.

Brown was just 13 years old when he took part in the crime and 14 when he was convicted.

He and Love were sentenced to 55 and 63 years in prison, respectively.

Brown claimed he received ineffective assistance of trial counsel because his lawyer failed to move to sever his trial from Love's.

However, the court found Brown's counsel had acted reasonably and denied the petition.

Brown also claimed the trial court abused its discretion in denying his motion for a mistrial, but the court of appeals found no violation had occurred there either.
