ELKHART, Ind. - Elkhart schools are developing guidelines for using social media to communicate with students.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, the goal of the policy would be to maintain a professional relationship between teachers and students.

Current school policy already bans the use of electronic communication to discuss anything non-school related.

Now, the school board is working to add guidelines for the creation and use of social media pages for school clubs and groups.

The new policy will also tell school employees under what circumstances they are allowed to use a personal social media account to contact a student.
