ELKHART Three officers involved in a deadly shooting are still on leave, even though the state has cleared them of any wrong-doing.

The Elkhart Truth reports that Sgt. Karl Miller, Cpl. James Ballard and Cpl. Bruce Anglemyer are all on paid leave, and will remain off the job until the Elkhart Police Department finishes its own internal investigation.

The three men shot and killed 27-year-old Jaime Benavidez last month, during a burglary. They fired in self-defense after Benavidez pointed a weapon at them.

An Indiana State Police investigation released this week finds they acted appropriately, and the Elkhart County prosecutor decided not to file any charges. Elkhart police expect to finish their investigation by the end of the week.
