Elkhart native Palmer replacing suspended Welker on Broncos' roster

The Denver Broncos promoted wide receiver and Elkhart native Nathan Palmer from their practice squad to the active roster to take the place of suspended receiver Wes Welker.

The Broncos also signed guard Ryan Miller to their practice squad.
Palmer and Miller were among the final cuts last weekend.

Palmer is 3rd-year pro who was on Denver's practice squad at the end of last season. He played in all four preseason games and caught one pass for 7 yards.

The Elkhart Central alum signed as undrafted free agent with the 49ers in 2012 following a successful college career at Northern Illinois. The Colts would sign Palmer to their active roster early in the 2012 season. He remained with the Colts until an injury in 2013 preseason led Indy to cut him.

Palmer spent the 2013 season on the practice squad with the Dolphins and Broncos.

Welker is suspended for the first four games due to a violation of the substance abuse policy.
