An Elkhart man, who was seriously injured earlier this month when a wooden plank slammed into his head, is making a slow but steady recovery.

Tom Woods was hurt back on February 15 while working at Homan Lumber in the 16-hundred block of west lusher avenue.
Woods' sister says the safety guards on a machine he was working on came loose. She says he suffered a broken cheekbone, jaw and nose and several damaged arteries. His family says he's gone through several surgeries and has shown significant improvement. But the recovery will be a long one, and it could be months before he's released.
Woods' sister says he might lose his hearing and still has to use a feeding tube to eat and drink. She did say reconstruction surgeries around his face were successful. He's also going through therapy, and is now able to walk, move around and talk.
