Elkhart man convicted of trying to set wife on fire

ELKHART, Ind. An Elkhart man has been convicted of trying to set his wife on fire.

It all started last may in the 57000 block of Best Avenue in Baugo Township.

Police say Larry Haines kicked in the door of his ex-wife's house and followed her as she tried to escape, sparking a propane torch and threatening to kill her.

On Thursday, the jury found Haines guilty in four of five charges against him, including felony burglary, attempted arson, felony battery with a deadly weapon and felony intimidation with a deadly weapon.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 14.

Haines faces up to 108 years in prison.
