ELKHART, Ind.-- Elkhart County has long been known as the RV capital of the world, which can be a good thing when times are good and a not-so-good thing during a recession.

Efforts to try and diversify the Elkhart economy continued today.

A consultant issued his report saying there's a role for everyone in the community to play.

“Those business owners that are here now, the more that we can get them to say what works about this place and the things that we can fix in terms of infrastructure, in terms of regulation, in terms of regionalization and communities kind of understanding the business process,” said Chris Steele, President and COO of Investment Consulting Associates. “The more than the institutions, the educational institutions and the workforce training folks can be brought into that concept of what businesses need and then they can be an active voice in being able to portray the community outside. Those are the things we could be doing right now.”

Steele was part of the site selection team that oversaw the move of Boeing's corporate headquarters from Seattle to Chicago about a dozen years ago.
