ELKHART, Ind. -- The mild summer has given bicyclists some great opportunities to hit the road. But as it is at any time of year, it's important to ride cautiously, especially at night.

According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth, a local group is coordinating efforts to give away free headlights and taillights to those who can't afford them.

Bike Elkhart purchased 750 sets last year with money from a grant and private donations.

So far, the group has distributed about 300 sets, so there are plenty more for those who need them.

The free bicycle lights are available at Elkhart bicycle shop and pedal power bike shop, also in Elkhart.
