Elkhart The city of Elkhart will adopt new rules to require three feet of passing distance between bicyclists and drivers. The council approved the measure unanimously Monday night.

It brings the city in line with Fort Wayne and South Bend, who've already passed similar measures.

Passing too closely will mean a $25 fine for drivers.

According to our reporting partners at the The Elkhart Truth . local bike organizations championed the new ordinance, but, at Monday night's meeting, some council members did warn bicyclists to follow laws and use more caution.
