Elkhart County, Ind. One of the most distinctive buildings in Michiana will soon be home to a minor league baseball team in Elkhart County in 2014.
That's according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.
The former American Countryside Farmers Market at State Road 19 and County Road 26, south of Elkhart, has been chosen as the site of a new baseball stadium.
Craig Wallin, the owner of the planned team, which has been named the Elkhart County Miracle, announced the location Friday.
He said a purchase agreement is in place with current property owners, waste-away group, to buy about 20 acres. That would include the current building, with the stadium to be built just to the north.
A ceremonial groundbreaking for the new $6.6 million stadium is set for June 28, with 48 home games planned for the 2014 season.
Excavation could begin in July.
The new stadium and adjacent complex is expected to be used for high school and college baseball games, community events, weddings, receptions and concerts.
