Two northern Indiana residents were arrested on drug charges in Miami County Saturday.

29-year-old Sepoor Washington of Elkhart and 33-year-old Benjamin Hicks of South Bend were taken to the Miami County Jail.

It happened around 4:25 p.m. during a traffic stop on U.S 31 near Airport Road. A police officer stopped a car because the driver, identified as Washington, was allegedly following another car too closely.

During the stop, the officer noticed some potential criminal activity and requested a narcotics detecting dog.

The police dog, Zeke, gave a positive alert of illegal drugs inside the car. When police searched, they allegedly found marijuana, heroin and pills.

Hicks faces felony charges of possession of heroin and possession of a legend drug. Both Hicks and Washington face a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana under 30 grams.
