Elkhart Police Chief Dale Pflibsen has announced his plans to retire.

Pflibsen spoke with Mayor Dick Moore two weeks ago concerning his intentions, and on Wednesday he made his plans official.

His last day as chief will be September 12.

Pflibsen has served the police department for 38 years as a policeman and later as chief. He says he looks forward to spending retirement with his wife.

With Pflibsen's blessing, Assistant Police Chief Laura Koch will be sworn in as the next Chief of the Elkhart Police Department.
