ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Municipal Airport recently came into some money to beautify its main entryway.
According to the airport's manager, they have $4,000 to invest in improvements.
So far the main road has been repaved, but additional plans include landscaping, removing an old parking lot and adding irrigation.
With more than 25,000 take-offs and landings each year, airport management says they need to invest more in maintaining appearances.
“All visitors who come to the airport come to Indiana Flight Center on the south side of the airport,” explained Andy Jones, airport manager. “They're sort of the ambassadors to the airport. So when they depart from the airport, they depart from the airport they go down airport road and Edwardsburg road and that's just wasn't very flattering; we're going to change all that.”
The airport road beautification project is the result of a partnership with the mayor's office, redevelopment commission and a local aviation chapter.
