Elkhart Humane Society hosted Annual Open House Sunday

Pets were given the chance to capture a moment with Santa Sunday, as their families searched for hot deals.

The Elkhart County Humane Society held their Annual Holiday Open House Sunday afternoon. The shelter opened their doors to the public for photo opportunities with Santa, and to take a look at the animals available for adoption.

The open house also offered great deals at the red barn resale shop, a fundraiser for the Humane Society. The money goes toward the necessities needed to run the shelter.

"It there way of celebrating the holidays with their pets and it’s great to see that there are so many beloved in the community that come dressed up as Santa or have Santa hats on,” says Megan Gonterman the Assistant Director of the Humane Society of Elkhart County. “It’s great to see that people look at these animals as part of their family."

The Humane Society estimates it raised $43,000 from last year's fundraiser.
