A Michiana hospital will be rising “literally” by three floors.
Tuesday Elkhart General celebrated the start of a multi-million dollar expansion.
Everyone invited was asked to sign one of the steel beams that will be used to build the additional floors.
There will be ten surgical suites including a hybrid surgical area plus 43 private recovery rooms.
“Otherwise this is about moving patients more expediently from one location like pre-op to surgery to post-op care instead of moving them all over the facility,” says Elkhart General President Greg Losasso. “It’s really about gaining some efficiencies and allowing for technology advances in the future.”
The new surgical suite will also be conveniently connected to the emergency room and all cardiac patients will be on the same floor.
The project costs 74 million dollars and will be finished by fall of 2015.
